Wipers are Saviours

Scraping the windshields with the wiper marks during these monsoons is not right!

Wipers are the only possible reason allowing us to drive in the monsoons.

Although they appear to be a minor component of the car’s overall structure, they play an important role in providing a clearer vision for driving.

While most of us know driving a car, it is also crucial to know the efficient way of using windshield wipers.

Most of us don’t generally spend time looking at those signs briefly but we all know that pulling down that main lever step-by-step can wipe the windshield with an increased pace at each step minimizing the delay between each swipe.
However, there are a few additional settings that can help the driver clean his windshield with a little less effort. When the signs are clearly known, it’s very easy. To gain a better understanding, let’s first deduce each of these indicators.

  • INT - Intermittent mode
  • MIST - Mist mode
  • LO - Low speed of wipers
  • HI - High speed of wipers

The main lever’s actions are indicated by the arrow pointing downwards. The activities of the toggle embedded in the lever are indicated by the arrow pointing upwards. Here’s how you handle each of them separately and in combination.

  1. Pulling the main lever towards you will spray the washer fluid, and the wipers will clean the fluid away from any debris on the windshield with one or two swipes.
  2. Pushing the lever upwards on to “MIST” will give one swift swipe on the windshield, which can be used when the droplets of rain are too erratic but not yet raining hard enough for intermittent mode.
  3. Pushing the lever downward from the off position activates “INTERMITTENT,” which is used when the raindrops are intermittent but not yet intense enough to enable low mode.
  4. The “LOW” setting, which is selected by moving the lever downward from intermittent, is used when it is raining steadily and the raindrops are falling at a normal rate.
  5. The final step on the main lever is the “HIGH”, used when it’s raining quite intensely and cannot be handled with the low mode.
  6. The “INTERMITTENT TOGGLE” contained in the lever itself (pointed by an upward arrow in the image) can be used to modify the wiping pace in each of these modes. Adjusting the intermittent toggle to the widest band would raise the wiping pace in each of these modes.

For example,

Setting the main lever to “LOW” and the intermittent toggle to the widest or highest band enables the wipers to operate at their quickest in the low mode; typically, the speed is somewhere in between the LOW and HIGH modes.

Setting the main lever on “HIGH” with the intermittent toggle pointed against the widest or highest band operates the wipers at the highest pace in the high mode. typically the fastest speed the wipers could work on the car.

Selecting the appropriate wiper speed mode in coordination with the effective intermittent toggle speed would improve wiper performance while also preventing scratches on the windshield.
